The IRS regulates what expenses are FSA eligible and are outlined in Section 213 (d). You can find a comprehensive list of FSA eligible items here.
A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) plan allows you to set aside pretax dollars to be used on eligible expenses incurred within the plan year. FSA rules and eligible expenses are set by the IRS. Be sure to save your itemized receipt each time you use your FSA debit card in case receipts are requested or you are audited by the IRS. FSA plans are "use it or lose it" so be sure to spend your dollars.
The 2024 IRS FSA Limits: $3,200 for FSA and $5,000 for dependent care.

A Health Savings Account (HSA) is a bank account used to save money for qualified medical expenses. You can only open and contribute to an HSA if you are enrolled in a qualified high deductible health plan and meet additional criteria. Contributions can be made on a pretax basis through your employer's payroll. You can invest your cash after reaching a $2,000 threshold. HSA plans are not "use it or lose it" and you keep your money even after you leave employment.
